The items, which were presented to the school in recognition of  its performance in the 2012 Basic Education Certificate Education (BECE), included a 5 KVA generator set, computer and its accessories, two footballs and 200 exercise books.

Making the presentation, Mr Amoatey said even though Korm is a rural school without electricity, the students were able to make 100 per cent pass in the 2012 BECE, as the first batch of the junior high school in the area.

He said the presentation of the generator was to motivate the school, the community and the teachers to continue to work harder to improve upon the standards.

“I must frankly say that it is not about the school structure or the facilities available that matter most. Rather, it is the determination to work hard in whatever environment you find yourself,” Mr Amoatey said.

He urged the parents to continue to support both their wards and the teachers to enable them to get the best out of the investment made in their children’s education.

The Yilo Krobo Municipal Director, Mrs Theresa Adarkwah, who received the items on behalf of the school, expressed her gratitude to the MP for the donation.

She said girl-child education in the municipality was a problem and advised parents not to educate boys at the expense of the girls.

The headmaster of Korm Basic School, Mr Samuel Ossom Kpabitey, mentioned challenges of the school including teacher’s accommodation and lack of enough classrooms.
