YIKROSEC appeals for completion of dormitory block

Authorities of the Yilo Krobo Senior High Commercial School (YIKROSEC) in the Eastern Region have made a passionate appeal to the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service (GES) and all other stakeholders to get the contractor working on a two-storey boys’ dormitory block to complete the project.

They said they were worried about the undue delay of the project which was awarded in January, 2011 to Micro Build Limited and was to be completed in December of the same year.

It would be recalled that in the October 3, 2014 edition of this paper, the PTA of YIKROSEC made an appeal for the early completion of the boys dormitory block, which was about 95 per cent complete.

According to some of the students, who spoke to the Daily Graphic, the lives of the 450 boys in the four dormitories, which were wooden structures infested with bedbugs, were seriously in danger as they were on many occasions attacked by snakes.

Dangerous electrical cables

They also explained that the dangerous aspect of the whole situation was that some of the electrical cables had been sparking fire  in the boys’ dormitory, indicating that, recently, one of the houses nearly caught fire, but for the timely intervention of the students who informed the school’s electrician.

In another interview, a house master of the school, Mr Paul Teye Okunor Tsawe, who added his voice to appeal for the completion of the project, said the situation had created congestion at the dormitory, with some students sleeping outside the school’s premises.

PTA Chairman

The Chairman of the Parent – Teacher Association (PTA), Pastor Joshua Terkpernor, appealed to those who matter to resource the contractor to enable him to complete the project and hand over same to the school in the shortest possible time.

The headmaster of the school, Mr Matthew Bawah, said although the contractor had almost completed the project, he wondered why “the little work left” had been abandoned, and appealed for support from all the stakeholders.
