Work commences on KG for Alavanyo-Abehenease

A German philanthropist, Ms Cornerlia von Wulfing, has cut the sod for the construction of a kindergarten for the basic education school at Alavanyo-Abehenease in the Hohoe municipality in the Volta Region.

The kindergarten which is estimated at GH¢150,000 comprises two unit classrooms, an office, a store and two seater toilet facility, and is expected to be completed in three months.

15th anniversary

The project is being undertaken to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the enstoolment of Ms Wulfing as the honorary Paramount Queen of the Sasadu traditional areas, that comprise the Sovie, Alavanyo, Saviefe and Akrofu traditional areas, under the stool name Mamaga Ngoyinyonufiaga Akosua.

Addressing a durbar ahead of the sodcutting ceremony, the Paramount Chief of the Alavanyo Traditional Area, Togbe Tsedze Atakora VII, said the relevance of kindergarten education could not be ignored in a child’s education because it set the tone for good foundation for education in life.

He said if there was any community without a kindergarten then it was at a great risk against the trend of development because it could lead to a scenario when a child would grow up and become semi-literate.

Togbe Atakora called for the community’s support for the project and asked that they should cooperate with the contractor to execute the project on time.

Commendation

The Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive, Dr( Mrs) Margaret Kwaku, said the development of human resource started at the basic level from kindergarten and that the government alone could not do it, and therefore commended the Mamaga Ngoyinyonufiaga Akosua Foundation for the gesture to the people, adding that it would remain an indelible contribution to the development of the area.

Dr Kwaku said the Abehenease kindergarten was the sixth to be constructed in the municipality, with four of them by the municipal assembly and the others by non-governmental organisations.

She also said 20 mechanised boreholes had been constructed for selected communities to provide potable water.

Mobilisation of funds

Mamaga Akosua disclosed that it took nine years to mobilise funds for the project.

She said her next project would be to embark on nutritional education for parents and children to ensure that the people were brought up on rich nutritional values to enrich the already available rich brains and minds in the Volta Region.

In a welcome address, the chief of Abehenease, Togbe Kunde V, reminded parents to ensure that their children were enrolled in school adding that with the depletion of arable farming land, education had gained credence and noted that without it people would not progress or develop.

He therefore said the kindergarten was an asset to the people in the entire Alavanyo Traditional Area, as well as the SASADU communities.
