People residing along the 147-kilometre Fufulso-Sawla road are to be sensitised to the potential hazards that the road is likely to pose.

The Fufulso-Sawla road begins from Fufulso in the Central Gonja District, passes through Damongo in the West Gonja District and ends in Sawla in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District.

The Ministry of Roads and Highways, the Ghana Highway Authority and African Development Bank contracted THCLR Ghana Limited to execute the campaign.

In his address, the District Chief Executive of West Gonja, Mr Ali Bakari Kassim, said the campaign would help the people to make good use of  the newly constructed road.

He said though roads were necessary for speedy development, their construction tended to increase fatalities through needless acts of omission and commission.

He also said  the best way to  derive maximum benefits from projects was to ensure a change in behaviour by road users and those who lived and worked along those roads.

The Member of Parliament for the Damongo Constituency, Mr Adam Mutawakilu, listed the three main components of the construction as being the ancillary works which included a health facility with 20 male and female wards, schools, living quarters for teachers and health workers, among others, with the third component being the sensitisation and awareness creation component.

Each of these components, he said, was important for the development of the area and added that it would help to improve the living conditions of members in the communities.

He urged all present at the launch to take the sensitisation component serious in order to avoid injuries and damage to the environment.

Key persons at the durbar included the Damongowura, Tuntunba James Jakpa Lermu II; the DCE of Central Gonja, Hon. Mumuni Shiraz Ibn Yasin and the Police Commander of West Gonja District, ASP Ansah Dawuda.
