Webster University accredited to operate in Ghana
Webster University, one of the world’s most diverse and global universities, has been granted accreditation to start operations in Ghana.
This is the first time the university is opening a campus in Africa since its establishment in 1950.
At a ceremony to officially introduce the campus to a section of the public in Accra, the Director of Webster University, Ghana, Dr Thomas Oates, said it was the first time the university was offering full undergraduate and graduate programmes on site.
He said for the start, the university would offer five courses at the undergraduate and Master’s levels.
The programmes, he said, included Bachelor of Arts in International Relations, Bachelor of Arts in Management, Bachelor of Arts in Media Communications, Master of Business Administration and Master of Arts in International Relations and that programmes offered at the Ghana campus were identical with programmes ran by Webster campuses in other parts of the world.
He said Webster students from Europe, Asia and the United States would also have the opportunity to study in Ghana so that those students would experience the diverse culture of the Ghanaian society.
He said Ghanaian students would also have the opportunity to complete their studies in any Webster campus abroad.
Dr Oates said the university’s intention to open a campus in Ghana was informed by Ghana’s peaceful environment and the ambition of Ghanaian students towards education.
“Ghana is a resourceful country with lots of opportunities for its youth and there is, therefore, the need for them to be equipped with the requisite skills to contribute to its development, ” he said.
He said the university would play host to both local lecturers and visiting lecturers from the world to enable Ghanaian students enjoy diversity in learning.
The Ghana campus, which is located at East Cantonments in Accra, has a six-unit classroom block and other world class facilities to make learning easy for the students.
