Walewale Senior High head promises development

The new headmaster of Walewale Senior High and Technical School (Walewale Sec/Tech), Chief Kuipo Harrison, has expressed his resolve to develop the school and make it regain its former status as one of the leading second cycle institutions in the Northern Region.

“My vision is to repair a tattered institution and create a conducive atmosphere for effective teaching and learning to take place,” he stated.

The headmaster made these statements in an exclusive interview with the Daily Graphic in Tamale.

His statement came following a violent demonstration by students of the school, which led to the destruction of valuable properties.

The demonstration, which occurred on November 24 and 25 last year, resulted in the burning of the official residence of the headmaster, an ICT centre and the destruction of other properties, including a police vehicle.

Chief Kuipo, who was then the headmaster of Nangkpanduri Business Senior High School and only assumed his present position on February 21 this year, said he had already met with various stakeholders of the school to seek their support to help repair the damaged institution.

“ I have met the student leaders, heads of department, form masters, the sports department, educational administrators in the district, traditional and political rulers in Walewale and other stakeholders and discussions with them so far have been very fruitful,” he stated.

He described the demonstration by the students as regrettable as it had deprived the school of some of its scarce resources needed for proper functioning and administration.

He said he would always consult experienced headmasters and educational officers in the Northern Region to seek their views and support anytime he encountered difficulties in his efforts to achieve the vision that he had for the school.
