WAEC urged to curb examination leaks

The Headmaster of the Crown Prince Academy, Mr Joseph Appiah Addo, has warned that the West African Examination Council (WAEC) stands to lose its credibility if it does not put in place the necessary measures to curb examination leaks.

“For us, we think WAEC was right to do what it did. But we appeal to the institution to take a very good look at itself because it stands to lose its credibility if it does not put its house in order,” he said.

Overcoming challenges

He, however, expressed the hope that the council had the capacity to overcome the challenge it encountered during the recent Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Mr Addo said this at the 12th Graduation Ceremony of the Crown Prince Academy in Accra. At the ceremony, 100 students graduated and were presented with certificates, with those who distinguished themselves in various subjects receiving awards.

The graduation of the 100 students, he said, brought the total number of students who had graduated from the school since 2004 to 1,047.

“Dear students, if you wish for long life, appreciate the parents you have.

If you wish for wisdom, respect your parents. If you wish for blessings from God, show gratitude for all that they do for you, and at all times, remember to say thank you with absolute trust and love,” he admonished the students.

Creativity and innovation

An Educationist, Mr Anis Hafer, called on junior high school (JHS) graduates to strive to be creative and innovative as they prepared for the next level of education.

“Don’t accept things for what they are. Consistently ask yourself: Is there something else that I can do with this information and change it so that things change for the better,” he said.

He said students should not think that they could do everything by themselves, adding that they should begin to work in groups by “looking at the people who think like you.”

The Managing Director of the school, Mrs Sussane Prince-Boateng, said, “In the years to come, management will endeavour to roll out more innovative ideas and programmes that will manifest the principles we believe in.”
