Victory Presbyterian Church School donates to orphanage

As part of activities to commemorate its 20th anniversary, students of the Victory Presbyterian Church School (VPCS) have presented assorted items and GH¢500 to the Potter’s Village Orphanage Home at Dodowa.
The items, valued at GH¢5,000 included five bags of rice, two bags of maize, a bag of beans, cooking oil, a bag of gari, two bags of sugar, used clothing and toiletries.
The students mobilised funds for the procurement of the items through various contributions they made with the support of the school’s administration.

The students were led to the home by the Director of the school, Rev. Mrs Florence Simpson, the Assistant Headmaster, Mr Michael Ansah and the Coordinator of the Central Planning Committee of the anniversary celebration, Mr Samuel Gyekye-Mensah, together with some teachers. The event also provided the students the opportunity to interact with inmates of the Home and share experiences on their studies.

Received items

Receiving the items on behalf of the home, the Headmistress, Ms Sophia Okyne, expressed delight at the donation and also lauded the initiative by the students and the school’s administration towards their anniversary celebration.
Ms Okyne underscored the importance of giving for which reason the Bible commanded all to give towards the poor, needy and the underprivileged in society.
While thanking the students for their amiable gesture and hospitality, she assured them that the items would be used to serve the needs of the Home.

Culture of giving

Earlier in an interview, Mr Gyekye-Mensah explained that the students were made to buy into the idea of the celebration, and one of them was for the school to give to an orphanage home.
“We encouraged each student to give regularly after explaining the idea to their parents, because we feel that if we train our children in such manner, they’ll never depart from it as the Bible says,” he added.
The Boys Prefect, Nana Darko Ohene-Bampoe, said it was their joy as students to help the needy in society.
The Girls Prefect Nana Ama Owiredu Dwamena, advised inmates of the home to learn hard to achieve their goals.
