The donation was made under a three-year project, known as the Transition and Persistence (TAP) programme.

It is a collaboration between USAID and Plan Ghana, a child-centred non-governmental organisation.

Speaking at a ceremony to hand over the facilities, the USAID Mission Director to Ghana, Ms Cheryl Anderson, said the agency was committed to improving the education of children in developing countries, especially the less-privileged, to better their lives.

“Too many children drop out before reaching JHS or fail to pass the Basic Education Certificate Examination. Each of these children represents a lost opportunity for Ghana if the country is to reach its full economic potential,” she said.

She urged parents to ensure the education of their children.

The Country Director of Plan Ghana, Mr Prem Skulawe, stressed that children had the right to pursue education at dignified places to become responsible citizens.

He said that was the reason why PLAN Ghana had come in to help and implored the school management committee to put in place a maintenance schedule to preserve the facilities.

The headmistress of the school, Mrs Thelma Z. Caesar, thanked the two institutions for choosing education as their focus of help.
