UMB donates to special school

The Executive Chairman of Jonah Capital, Sir Samuel Esson Jonah, has advised parents who have children with autism not to hide them, but rather nurture them and provide them with the necessary support to excel.

He said the country could lose out greatly if children with such conditions were not well nurtured and their resources developed in support of national development.

Sir Jonah, who is the patron for the Woodfield Manor Autism and Special Needs School, made the statement in a speech read on his behalf when staff members of the Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) donated a brand new Hyundai H1 bus to the school at Adenta.

Social responsibility

The donation was part of the bank’s corporate social responsibility programme, which is centred on education.

Presenting the bus, the Director for Retail at UMB, Mr Lawrence Appiah-Baiden, said the bank was committed to making a difference in the lives of people.

He commended the management and staff of the Woodfield Manor School for working hard to provide sound education for the students.

The Proprietress and owner of the school, Mrs Cornelia Boateng, thanked the bank for the donation and stated that the bus would significantly enhance the ability of the school to plan learning activities outside the school, adding that the school would do whatever it could to support autistic children in the country.
