UEW appeals for increase in budget allocation
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba, Prof. Akwasi Asabere-Ameyaw, has appealed to the government and the GETFund to increase the annual budgetary allocation to the university.

This, according to him, would enable the university to continue to fulfil its mandate of producing quality professional educators to spearhead the nation’s vision of education.
Prof. Asabere-Ameyaw made the appeal at the 18th congregation of the university at the Kumasi Campus.
He said although the university increased its admissions last academic year as a result of the applications received from the two batches of the three-year and four-year senior high school leavers for the 2012/2013 academic year, it was only able to admit 7,742 out of a total of 24,030 applications received, representing a 60 per cent increase and the highest admission ever by the university.
Seven hundred students graduated with degrees, diplomas and certificates from the Centre for Distance Education of the Institute for Educational Development and Extension (IEDE), northern sector, School of Graduate Studies, Faculty of Technical Education and Faculty of Vocational Education.
The vice chancellor hinted that the university would, in the next academic year, introduce three new graduate programmes- Master of Philosophy in Early Childhood Education, Master of Philosophy in Speech Therapy and Postgraduate Diploma in Education by distance, in line with efforts to expand graduate studies in the university.
The Chairman of the University Governing Council, Dr Emmanuel Kenneth Andoh, commended the Techiman Traditional Council for donating 300 acres of land to the university for the development and establishment of the College of Distance Education and Extension Service.
He said currently, there were 13,256 students pursuing various courses under the distance education programme of the university.
