UDS to establish campus in Brong-Ahafo
The University for Development Studies (UDS) is to establish a campus in the Brong-Ahafo Region, as part of efforts to expand access to its academic programmes to more students.

Professor Haruna Yakubu, the Vice-Chancellor, said these ties in with the strategic vision of bolstering the human resource base of the nation that is, churning out development-oriented graduates.
The UDS, established in 1992, has its focus on rural development, and has been operating campuses in Tamale, Wa, Navrongo and Nyankpala.
Prof Yakubu, who was addressing an orientation ceremony in Kumasi for the second batch of students for its Third Trimester Field Practical Programme (TTFPP), said they were proud of the useful services it was rendering to rural communities through research, exchange of knowledge and outreach programmes.
The flagship practical-oriented project of the university seeks to encourage students to develop favourable disposition towards working in rural and deprived communities.
Over 8,000 students backed by 128 lecturers have been deployed in 714 communities in Ashanti and Brong-Ahafo, under this year’s outreach programme to engage in community development activities.
Prof Yakubu entreated the students to take the activity seriously since it was part of their academic work.
Dr Martin Ofosu, Director of the TTFPP, said while in the communities, they would work in groups to generate data for further research into development challenges and how to tackle these.
He counseled them to make their stay in the communities beneficial, by embarking on practical projects that would help fight poverty among the rural population.
