UDS signs MoU with Sunyani-based technical university

The University for Development Studies (UDS) has signed a  three-year renewable Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the College for Community and Organisation Development (CCOD) to train practitioners and students in Organisational Development (OD).

Under the MOU, the UDS would be responsible for the certification of students of the CCOD and also ensure that standards are maintained.

The Sunyani-based technical university for Organisational Development (OD) would run programmes leading to the award of a Diploma in Organisational Development (DOD), a Bachelor of Science Degree in Organisational Development (BSc OD), Master of Science in Organisational Development (MSc OD) and a Professional Certificate in Organisational Development (POD).

Affiliation status

In a brief remark at the signing ceremony, held at the administration block of the UDS in Tamale last Tuesday, to formally grant the college the affiliation status, the Pro Vice Chancellor of the UDS,  Professor Gabriel Ayum Teye, said the UDS as the mentoring university would continue to provide the needed guidance and support to ensure that the college offered the needed practical training for students and professionals to transform organisations and make them sustainable in the face of stiff global competition.

He stated that the delay in granting the permission for the college to become an affiliate of the UDS was to ensure that all the quality assurance processes were strictly followed to ensure that the name of the university was not brought into disrepute.

Prof. Teye, therefore, urged the authorities of the college to work hard to maintain standards and also abide by the rules and regulations as an affiliate institution of the university.

The President of the CCOD, Mr Gabriel Gbiel Benarkuu, who together with the Registrar of the college, Mr Isaac Ada-Ebsah, signed for the college, thanked the university authorities for granting the affiliation status to the college.

Transformational skills

Mr Benarkuu for his part said the CCOD was to help train leaders with transformational skills to man both private and public institutions in Ghana and across Africa.

He said the college, which was already operating in some African countries including Kenya, Nigeria and Zambia, decided to affiliate with the UDS based on several strategic reasons, among which were its community-driven development approach, use of action research, coaching and mentoring of students.

Mr Benarkuu said the college had already secured accreditation from the National Accreditation Board (NAB) to run the programmes and was only waiting for the affiliation status with the UDS to begin operations.
