This is the first time such an agreement has been signed between the university and the colleges of education.

The colleges comprise 40 public and six private colleges of education.

Signing the MoU on behalf of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), the Vice Chancellor, Prof. D.D Kuupole, said the university was committed to working with the colleges  to excel as tertiary institutions.

However, he said there was the need for all to abide by the rules of the partnership for success to be achieved.

Responsibilities

He said the university and the colleges both had responsibilities to fulfil under the MOU and added that he was optimistic that all the institutions involved in the partnership would live up to expectation.

“We are all responsible and we all have to work hand in hand towards the day when the colleges will be on their own,” Prof. Kuupole stated.

In a speech read on behalf of the colleges, the Principal of the Accra College of Education, Mrs Christine Bampoe Henaku, pledged that the colleges would abide by the framework developed for a fruitful partnership.

She said the upgrading of the colleges of education from Certificate A awarding institutions to diploma institutions necessitated discussions between the affiliate institutions and the university.

She said principals of the colleges believed that there would be an improved relationship between UCC and the colleges till the colleges were ready to be autonomous.
