The projects include those that were being funded by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GET Fund) and others.

The fund will also be used to support students to undertake research and development projects including teaching activities.

At the launch in Accra, the Dean of the School of Business, Professor Edward Marfo-Yiadom, said although the department was 40 years old, it lacked certain facilities that affected effective teaching and learning.

One of the facilities, he said, was the construction of a building for the Profession and Management Development Unit that was needed to position the faculty as one of the best business schools in Africa.

School of Business

The School of Business is one of the 10 faculties of UCC and one of the four faculties of the College of Humanities and Legal Studies.

Established in the 2013/2014 academic year, the School of Business evolved from the Department of Business Studies under the Faculty of Social Sciences.

According to Prof. Marfo-Yiadom, the fund was established to provide a solid financial base to enable the school to deliver on its mandate.

The fund would be managed by a board of trustees and a trust deed inaugurated by the UCC Council.

He said the fund would be mobilised from a number of sources, including the alumni and students of the School of Business, corporate bodies, investment income and other avenues.

Contribution

In a speech read on his behalf, the Vice Chancellor of UCC, Professor Domwini Dabire Kuupole, urged the alumni of the university to give back to the school as part of their contribution to the growth of the university.

He said the government and the management of the university alone could not shoulder the burden of every department, thus the need for past students to complement the efforts of the school.
