The Vice Chancellor of the UCC, Professor Domwini Dabire Kuupole, who announced this in Accra yesterday, indicated that this was in line with the mission of the CCE to bring education to the doorstep of people.

He was speaking at the inauguration of a building complex which will host the Accra campus of the CCE. It is located at Papafio, near Adjiraganor.

Internally generated funds

Prof Kuupole said internally generated funds were used to construct the Accra campus of the CCE adding, “we are using our internally generated funds to expand the coverage of distance education nationwide and we urge the general public to visit our facilities”.

He said the UCC was working hard to upgrade the centre to the status of a college in order to make it more autonomous and efficient.

Director of the Centre

The Director of the CCE, Prof George Oduro, commended all past Vice Chancellors and the current one, as well as a former director of CCE, for their sterling leadership and contributions towards the completion of the Accra Study Centre of the CCE.

“Throughout these nascent years, we can affirm that it was the visionary leadership of the immediate past Director, Mr Albert Kobina Koomson, that has brought us today’s function,” he said.

Former Vice Chancellor

A former Vice Chancellor of the UCC and the President of the Methodist University College, Reverend Professor Samuel Adjepong, described the impact of distance education in the country as “tremendous”.

He said the UCC had played a pioneering role in the promotion of distance education in Ghana, adding that “distance education is synonymous with the UCC”.
