UCC Centre for Continuing Education to be upgraded
The University of Cape Coast (UCC) Centre for Continuing Education is to assume the status of a college from the 2014/2015 academic year.

According to the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Dominic Kuupole, the upgrading, which had been approved by the academic board, was expected to make the centre more autonomous and competitive to undertake effective and efficient policies.
The centre is also to introduce graduate programmes by distance learning from this January to allow academic progression for students who have completed their programmes by distance learning.
The first batch of postgraduate students will start school this January.
Courses available include; Master of Education (M.Ed) Administration in Higher Education, Measurement and Evaluation, Guidance and Counselling, Educational Psychology and Special Education. The business courses include; Human Resource Management, Banking and Finance, Accountancy and Management Studies.
Prof. Kuupole was speaking at a matriculation ceremony for 14,463 students for the centre. The figure representing a four per cent increase over last year’s, comprises 11,312 students made up of 7,979 males and 6,484 females pursuing various programmes in education and 3,140 pursuing various business-related programmes.
Mission
Prof. Kuupole noted that the university was committed to its mission of making university education accessible to the majority of people who otherwise would have been denied that opportunity.
This year, he said, the centre would commence the construction of two new permanent study centres to be located at Zuarungu near Bolgatanga and in Wa while the completed Accra study complex would be inaugurated by the end of this month.
The centre, he stated, was also planning to open over 10 new study centres nationwide.
He said the university was also making serious efforts to improve on information and communication technology facilities to promote effective teaching and operations at the centre
He was particularly happy that more females were taking advantage of the opportunity that distance education offered to improve on their academic status, and added that women must fully seize the opportunity to avail themselves of top quality education and progress.
He advised the matriculants to work hard and plan their lives to enable them to achieve their academic goals.
The students, who took their matriculation oath, pledged to abide by the rules and regulations of the university.
