Addressing the ceremony on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Professor D. D. Kuupole, at a ceremony held at the St Louis College of Education in Kumasi, Dr Agyenim Boateng, a senior lecturer of the UCC, said the university received a total of 3,545 applications from qualified applicants, but was able to offer admission to only 2,666 due to some constraints.

He said the study centres were at: St Joseph’s College of Education at Bechem, which admitted 539 students, St Theresa’s College of Education at Hohoe, 312; St Louis College of Education in Kumasi, 710; Holy Child College of Education at Takoradi, 587, while the SDA College of Education in Koforidua admitted 1,228 students.

He also said through the training, the university intended to produce teachers with analytical minds who would examine issues critically and offer alternatives.

He advised the students to desist from social vices such as cyber fraud, drug abuse and robbery, and warned that the university would collaborate with the law enforcement agencies to deal drastically with those who were found culpable.

Prof. Kuupole urged the students to take their studies seriously since the university would not entertain examination malpractices and other negative practices that would undermine the image of the institution, adding that “As teachers, you share a common responsibility towards improving basic education”.

The students were sworn in by Mrs Comfort Boakye Mensah, the Principal of the St Louis College of Education.
