The building, estimated to cost GH¢1,918,000 comprises 12-unit classroom blocks with a library, urinal, stores, offices and washrooms.

Quality education

Performing the ceremony, Alhaji Limuna said the project formed part of the government’s commitment to ensuring that all Ghanaian children, no matter their geographical locations, were given quality education.

That, he said, could not be achieved if facilities needed to facilitate quality teaching and learning were not provided.

“This is another testimony of President John Mahama’s commitment to ensuring that we provide the necessary infrastructure to promote quality teaching and learning in our schools throughout the country”, he stated.

Alhaji Limuna added that “quality teaching and learning cannot be achieved if we do not provide and create a congenial atmosphere that will enable both teachers and pupils to interact effectively.”

He urged the contractor on the project to work within the time schedule and endeavour to deliver quality work which would stand the test of time.

He also admonished the leadership of the school to take keen interest in the project and report to the Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) if they observed anything untoward in the course of the execution of the project.

Supervision

The Tamale MCE, Alhaji Rahman Gundado, said the purpose of the project was to provide adequate classroom blocks for the increasing student population of the school.

He explained that two engineers had been contacted to supervise the work of the contractor on the project to ensure that the work was done according to standard specifications.

He said when completed, the facility would not only serve the needs of the pupils in the school but all students in the metropolis.

Alhaji Gundado expressed gratitude to President Mahama for making funds available to the assembly to complete the project.

Police station

In a related development, a sod-cutting ceremony was performed for the construction of a two-storey police station for the Lamashegu Police Post in the Tamale Metropolis at a cost of GH¢650,000.
