The project

The project, which was established in 2008, seeks to empower children to be instrumental in informing and educating people in the Diaspora about Ghana, its cultures and humanitarian needs.

It also aims to give voice to children through the media and to equip them with intellectual ability to clearly come up with child-led initiatives which would benefit their communities.

The project, which is slated to commence in January next year, would provide a platform for children to communicate their concerns, increase awareness of poverty and challenges in Ghana, especially in the rural areas.

Under the project, seven children would be identified from rural communities and groomed to become ambassadors of change in their communities.

Participants would undertake a cross cultural exchange programmes geared to give them the needed exposure to interact with students from other countries.

Speakers at the Function

Speaking at the brief ceremony in Accra, the Country Director of Plan Ghana, Mr Prem Shukla, stated that children were the hope of the country’s future and their involvement in developmental issues ought to be a paramount concern to all.

He indicated that the signing of the memorandum of understanding marked the beginning of a life changing moment for Ghanaian children and the future of the country.

He called on corporate Ghana to support the initiative, adding that “the responsibility to positively impact the lives of thousands of Ghanaian children lies on all of us”.

For her part, the Head of Mission of Diaspora African Forum, Ambassador Dr Eriet Bennett, stated that Ghanaian children had the potential to aspire to a better height in society and require opportunities to achieve that.

According to her, the second edition has been necessitated by the success chalked up during the maiden edition.
