It is also to address some of the major difficulties polytechnics face in the discharge of their core responsibility of providing quality and practical technical education to the citizenry.

Objectives

The Secretary for NESPAG, Mr Adam Samed, who signed the MoU on behalf of his organisation, said the main objectives of the collaboration between the two institutions were to help remove the erroneous perception about technical education in the country.

He said the MoU would also strengthen the institutional collaboration between the polytechnic and NESPAG, adding that the MoU would involve all the key actors in technical education, such as those in the Industrial Arts Department of the polytechnics, to reduce unemployment by encouraging entrepreneurship.

Laudable partnership

After signing the MoU on behalf of the polytechnic, the Rector of the polytechnic, Professor Abdulai Salifu Asuro, lauded the idea of partnering NESPAG to promote technical education in the country.

He said the relevance of technical education could not in any way be overemphasised, adding that: “It provides any nation, including ours, the middle-level industrial base and improves the socio-economic sector of the country, thus shooting the country to glory.”

He expressed the hope that the MoU with NESPAG would also facilitate the polytechnic’s desire to be converted into a technical university.
