Two bodies donate to schools in Northern Region

Two child-centred non-governmental organisations have provided furniture, hand-washing bowls and sanitation materials, valued at GH¢9,260 for 688 pupils in four basic schools in the Tolon and Kumbungu districts in the Northern Region.

The furniture comprised 16 dual desks (small size) for kindergarten pupils (KG) and 40 dual desks (normal size) for primary pupils, while the sanitation materials were made up of washing bowls and soap to promote hand washing among the students to prevent the spread of diseases.

The items were provided by the Tahima Baptist Child Development Programme (TBCDP) with support from the Christian Children's Fund of Canada (CCFC), and the beneficiary schools are the Cheyohi District Assembly (DA), Kpachi Methodist, Bongnayilli DA and Gbullahagu AME -Zion primary schools, which are also in the operational areas of the TBCDP.

Speaking at a hand-over ceremony at Cheyohi DA primary school in the Tolon District,  a Board Member of TBCDP, Madam Comfort Kaleem, said the donation was in response to an increase in enrolment at the KG and primary levels in the beneficiary schools as most of the children, especially those in the KG, sat on the floor to learn.

She expressed the hope that the items would go a long way to address the challenges confronting the teachers and pupils in school and help to maintain personal hygiene in schools.

Madam Kaleem also mentioned some of the activities undertaken by the TBCDP in its operational areas as the renovation of Kpachi Methodist Primary School at the cost of GH¢6,167.

She said the TBCDP was also pushing for funding from the CCFC, which is their major sponsor, to construct an early childhood development centre (ECDC) for the Gbullahagu community to ease congestion in the classrooms while plans were underway to support children with exercise books.

Madam Kaleem called on all stakeholders in education in the Tolon and Kumbungu districts to play their roles effectively to ensure quality education and urged the children to take their education seriously.

Appreciation

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Tolon District Directorate of Education, Mr Mark Godfred Domaa, who received the items on behalf of the schools, thanked the TBCDP and CCFC for their continuous support for education and gave an assurance that the education directorate would continue to work with all stakeholders to provide quality education in the two districts.
