Mr Boadi said this at the closing ceremony of a week-long computer literacy workshop for 60 teachers drawn from the Northern Region at the Ashesi University at Berekuso in the Eastern Region.

The workshop was organised by the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and Dream Oval Foundation under its iTeach project.

The objective of the training was to help teachers develop their awareness, understanding and appreciation of the role Information and Communication Technology (ICT) plays in teaching, particularly with regard to the application of the Internet.

It was also to promote better understanding of how the Internet could be used to enhance teaching and learning, as well as encourage teachers to make decisions with regard to the continuous use of ICT.

Mr Boadi explained that quality education was a collective responsibility and encouraged stakeholders to get involved so that academic performance in schools could be enhanced.

Mr Boadi urged the participants to ensure that the knowledge gained was properly utilised to improve ICT teaching in their respective schools.

He also asked them to pass on their expertise to other teachers in their communities.

The Chief Executive Officer of Dream Oval Foundation, Mr Derry Dadzie, said the project provided a platform for teachers to acquaint themselves with basic ICT skills to enable them to improve on their teaching.

He said the aim of the foundation was to build the capacity of teachers as a means of improving the quality of education in the country.

Mr Dadzie added that since the inception of the iTeach programme, over 100 teachers from the Greater Accra, Central and Ashanti regions had been trained.

He said majority of the teachers who attended the iTeach programme had very little or no knowledge in ICT and yet they left equipped with a wealth of knowledge that they used to enrich their teaching methods and to inspire their students and colleagues.
