According to her, the study of the arts, which include music, dance, theatre and visual arts was an essential part of the development of students, and such programmes needed to be introduced in the educational curriculum at the basic level as part of the core subjects.

Mrs Doryumu, who was speaking when the first theatre play organised by the school  “The Prince of Egypt,” was presented in Accra on Saturday,  stated that the study of arts improved the learning skills of students”.

Explaining further, she said education and engagement in arts programmes were an essential part of schools’ curriculum  and an important component in the educational programme of every student.

Encourage Arts

Citing the importance of the study of arts, Mrs Doryumu said it reduced student dropouts, enhanced student creativity and produced well-prepared and confident citizens for future human development, and urged parents to encourage their children to pursue the study of arts programmes.

The Prince of Egypt

The theatre play  was the first of its kind staged by students of the school, and was directed by Mr Solomon Yaw Dartey.

The Prince of Egypt, which is an epic Biblical musical adapted from the Bible, uniquely resonates with the school’s history,  present and the future, showing its journey from when it was established in 1963, and through the turbulent period of the 1980’s.

The cast showcased skills and talents in their various roles.
