The schools inspected during the tour were the DWM schools in Nima and the Early Childhood Development Centre at the Ministries.

The delegation, which included business women and entrepreneurs from Sweden was also to solicit funds and support from corporate institutions and local non-governmental agencies to help facilitate the educational system in the country.

Educational System

In a briefing, the former First Lady,Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, said “Sweden is a great and disciplined country, which invests more in education and in women’s empowerment which I think Africa, especially Ghana, should adopt”.

She said the school was established to reduce the burden some parents faced in taking care of their children and attending to other activities adding that, the children were being kept in the safe hands of the tutors.

She said the movement was working hard to rehabilitate the schools to contribute to the development of the country, especially in education and women’s empowerment, adding that “what is happening is that people bring their children and after we have trained them and they are really doing well, the parents withdraw them and try to put them in a different school because of inadequate facilities”.

More Commitment

The leader of the delegation, Ms Eva Wetterstrand from the Navarre Management Programme (NMP6), an organisation made up of both business women entrepreneurs representing different countries that operate in Sweden, commended the tremendous work done by women in Ghana and pledged to support the DWM project.

She also commended the good work done by the headmistress and teachers of the school for their dedication and commitment towards the development of the schools.
