The students who pleaded anonymity said many of the affected students were innocent of the misconduct cited by the school authorities for which they had been suspended.

A letter dated October 20, 2014 and signed by the Assistant Headmaster, Administration, Mr Francis Koomson Barnes, asked the 55 third-year students to proceed on an indefinite suspension from Monday, October 20, for molesting students.

The letter indicated that the affected students “had defied constant appeals by the headmaster to desist from bullying students and used belts to whip some SHS 2 students on Sunday, October 19, between 9 p.m. and 10.30 p.m.

The students said there were over 30 students included in the list who were not at the scene when the incident occurred.

A spokesperson for the students said “some of the students were learning in the classrooms when the incident occurred but all of us had been suspended.”

They added that the school administration had refused any appeals from the affected students to reconsider its decision.

However, authorities at the school have indicated that the suspension was to pave the way for further investigations into the matter.

Mr Francis Koomson Barnes, who signed the letter, said the school had not sacked any student.

He indicated that the suspension was to allow for further investigations into the matter and added that the students would be called back after the investigations.

He said the school administration was using the code of discipline of the school, since all students in the school deserved to be protected.
