Master Asumang, 14, won a bronze medal in an essay competition organised last year by the Royal Commonwealth, a non-profitable organisation based in Leeds in the United Kingdom. His essay was titled ‘Opportunity galore.’

At a presentation ceremony at Akyem Awisa last Wednesday, Master Asumang said he attended the Awisa Methodist Junior School for two weeks while on holidays last year, ostensibly to experience school life in a rural area.

Opportunity Galore

He said he realised that the school did not have enough books, and following that he wrote the essay titled ‘Opportunity Galore.’

Master Asumang said, a friend of his mother, Ms Akosua Adu Kumi Ampofo, who is the founder of Bookworm Trust, entered the essay in a competition organised by the Royal Commonwealth, which won him a bronze medal.

Master Asumang said he was to be given money in pound sterling as his reward but he chose instead that it should be used to procure books for the two schools in his hometown, Akyem Awisa.

Appreciation

The headteacher of the Awisa Methodist Primary School, Mr Stanley Ofori Amoako, received the books on behalf of the schools and thanked Master Asumang for the donation and promised that the schools would make good use of them.

Madam Irene Agyei Ohemeng, the headteacher of Awisa Methodist JHS, also thanked Master Asumang and his mother for the gesture.
