Stop principals from charging feeding fee

Members of the Teacher Trainee Association of Ghana (TTAG) have called on the government to, as a matter of urgency, stop principals of Colleges of Education from charging them feeding fee which is being borne by the government.

“If the principals do not refund the feeding fee which have been paid by the government to defray what the students were forced to pay, the students of the 38 colleges of education in Ghana will use all lawful means at our disposal to ensure that the right thing is done,” the association said in a statement.

The statement, signed by its national president, Mr Daniel Kofi Osei, said “similarly, any attempt by any principal to charge feeding fee this semester will be met with the full force of the more than 25,000-member association.”
It said the trainees were law-abiding students who did not want any showdown with their principals and were, therefore, urging the government to call the principals to order.
The statement said currently, many students had withdrawn from their courses due to their inability to pay school fees.

Call for refund

It, therefore, asked the principals to refund the already paid feeding fee to the students and desist from charging them any feeding fee again.
The statement advised students to not pay any additional feeding fee that would be charged by the principals, urging them  to deduct GH¢504.00  from this semester’s school fees and pay the remaining amount.
Every student is charged GH¢504.00 per semester as feeding fee, amounting to GH¢1, 008 (One thousand and eight Ghana cedis) each academic year.
