The association has declared an indefinite strike, effective January 20, 2014 and had by a letter dated January 3, 2014, served notice of its intention to the Minister of Education, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyeman.

A copy of the letter was also served on the NLC.

Accordingly, in a directive dated January 16, 2014, signed by Mrs Bernice A. Welbeck, the acting Executive Secretary of the NLC, the commission called on CETAG to call off the strike.

It said the issues in contention do not warrant a strike.

The statement recalled that the commission in the exercise of its powers under the Labour Act, invited the parties, made up of CETAG (complainants); the Ministry of Education and the National Council for Tertiary Education, to appear before it on January 15, 2014.

It said while the employer’s representatives and respondents in the matter were duly represented, CETAG failed to make an appearance.

The statement invited all the parties to reappear before the commission on January 22, 2014.
