The Asunafo South District Director of Education, Mr Osei Kwadwo Hayford, has urged supervisory bodies in the education sector to step up effective monitoring of school management committees (SMCs) to enable them to discharge their duties effectively.

He said among other responsibilities, the SMCs were expected to collaborate with Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) and relevant stakeholders in the community to maintain school buildings, adding that his office would support monitoring and supervision of schools in the district, by providing fuel to circuit supervisors.
Mr Hayford stated this when he inspected ongoing and renovation works in the district, sponsored by Global Partnership for Education Grant (GPEG), a development partner in Ghana.
He said 50 dilapidated classroom blocks in the area had been earmarked for renovation.
According to him, the district education directorate was among the eight district directorates in the Brong Ahafo Region which had received GH¢2,930.00 from the GPEG fund.
He said the money was to be used for the renovation of classroom blocks and procure materials to ensure quality teaching and learning in the schools, and also promote educational programmes in the district.
He advised the head teachers who had received their share of the fund to use it for the intended purpose.
He also advised parents and guardians to be committed to their children’s education, take keen interest in their performance and also attend PTA meetings.
