He said education was not the sole responsibility of government, and the role played by other stakeholders, such as the governing board, the parent-teacher association (PTA) and the staff, in support of quality education delivery needed to be appreciated.

“I must admit as the Greater Accra regional director of Education that OSUTECH is growing at a fast pace and I need to give credit to the government and other stakeholders for their respective contributions,’’ Dr Attafuah stressed.

He made the remarks at the 25th Anniversary and fifth Speech and Prize-Giving Day of the OSUTECH in the Shai-Osudoku District of the Greater Accra Region.

The anniversary was on the theme, “Innovative Thinking and Technology: The Leader in Effective Education’’.

Accessing quality education

He noted that structures springing up around OSUTECH had opened up the school to many more students who needed to access quality education to accomplish the vision of the Ghana Education Service (GES), and encouraged the teachers, the administration, the board of governors, the PTA and the students to continue working as a team to ensure growth and development of the school.

The regional director also encouraged the teachers to avail themselves for self-improvement courses that would enable them to perform their professional duties more effectively as expected of them, and advised the students to take their studies seriously to improve upon their performance.

The guest speaker, Dr Ruth Welbeck of the 37 Military Hospital, said the youth, who are the future leaders of the nation, should be well prepared to take their place in the world that was moving fast, using innovative thinking and technology.

She said in a high technological environment where there was access to fast, reliable and unlimited internet, digital libraries where teachers had mobile applications that enabled them to plan their lessons effectively to grade students’ work, their progress could be tracked even when they were working outside the classroom.

Headmistress

The Headmistress of the school, Mrs Sylvia Baaba Yankey, paid glowing tribute to the founding fathers of the school as well as the board of governors, PTA, old students association and other collaborators for their immense support and contributions to the growth of the school.

She lauded the government for the provision of infrastructure for the school and expressed optimism that the approved girls’ dormitory project would soon start, to provide accommodation for the girls on campus.

The Paramount Chief of the Osudoku Traditional Area (Osudoku Matse), Nene Aadegbor Ngmongmowuyaa Kwesi Animle VI, who chaired the function, said the school had produced scholars in the area and commended the government for its support.

Founding fathers, teaching and non-teaching staff, as well as students were rewarded for their various contributions to the school.
