The inaugural ceremony coincided with the induction into office of the president and registrar for the college.

Accredited by the National Accreditation Board (NAB) and affiliated to the Kwame University of Science and Technology (KNUST), SMUC currently has three faculties.

These are the Faculty of Science and Technology; School of Business and Economics and the Faculty of Built Environment. It has nine departments under these faculties.

The university is located at the centre of Feyiase, one of the historical towns in the country, near the only natural lake in Ghana, Lake Bosomtwe.

Induction/Matriculation

Speaking after their induction, the President of the College, Prof. Kofi Sraku-Lartey, assured  the College Council of the readiness of the staff to work assiduously to fulfil the vision and mission of the university.

He said the increase in the country’s population puts pressure on social amenities, especially that of the public universities, hence the need for private universities to partner the government in its quest to train the relevant manpower for nation building.

Delivering a paper on the theme: “The Contribution of Private Tertiary Education to National Development,” Prof. Sraku-Lartey called on  the Government to support both private and public tertiary institutions with the requisite facilities to enable them to succeed.

He assured the public that the college would work assiduously to introduce several demand-driven programmes such as training nurses, physician assistants and public health officers, adding that from February next year, it would start a course for Healthcare Assistants.

Founder’s remarks

The founder of the university, Ms Margaret Oteng, thanked the chiefs, elders and people of the area for their hospitality and used the opportunity to advise students to learn hard and take advantage of the ultra-modern facilities in the university.

She also appealed to stakeholders to assist the college through the provision of more residential facilities for staff and students, computers and accessories for the school’s ICT laboratory, books to stock the library and vehicles to transport students and staff.

The Executive Secretary of the National Accreditation Board, Mr Kwame Dattey, in a brief remark lauded the leadership of the college, saying “He who opens a school door, closes a prison”.
