St Louis past students to build dormitory for alma mater
The Accra-Tema chapter of the St Louis Past Students Association (SLOPSA) has held a dinner dance in Accra to raise funds to support the construction of a 600-bed dormitory for the St Louis Senior High School in Kumasi.

The alumni-sponsored project, estimated at approximately US$700,000 (GH¢2.7 million), is expected to ease the congestion that has resulted from the increase in admissions in recent years.
The President of SLOPSA Accra, Mrs Winifred Bordom Ampofo, said the investment in the facility would greatly help to continue the success story and achievements of St Louis SHS, where brilliant girls continued to pursue their dreams to make an impact on society.
“As former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan said, ‘education is the premise of progress’ and that is what St Louis our pride gave us. It is only appropriate that all SLOPSANS home and abroad and well wishers who believe in empowering the girl-child donate generously to the dormitory project to help more girls realise their potential,” she said.
St Louis SHS
The school was established in 1952 in line with the policy of the Catholic Church to give equal educational opportunities to boys and girls.
The Sisters of St Louis had earned a name for themselves as exceptional educationists in Ireland and France and they were brought in to help. They realised there were no permanent buildings, so they lived frugal lives and were able to save part of the meagre salaries they were receiving. This they contributed towards the building of St Louis SHS.
Following the training from the Sisters, students are religiously oriented, psychologically balanced, physically fit, morally upright and, above all, academically outstanding.
The motto of the school, which is inspired by the principles of the Sisters of St Louis, is “Dieu Le Veut” (God wills it).
