St John’s Grammar old students initiate project

The St John’s Grammar School Old Students Association (JOSA) has organised a sod-cutting ceremony at the school compound in Accra for a building project.

The project which is estimated to cost GH¢150,000 comprises a sick bay, pharmacy, nurses’ quarters and a JOSA national secretariat.

In a welcome address, the headmistress of the school, Mrs Gloria Laryea, said the facilities when completed would go a long way to help both the staff and students since the only way for students to access a health facility was to go all the way to the Achimota Hospital.

She said there were times when students with asthma or those with sickle cell crisis had to be rushed out of the school compound to nearby clinics for emergency care.

The national President of JOSA, Mr Emmanuel Quarshie, said with the school preparing to celebrate its 60th anniversary early next year, it was only proper for the past students to put up such a facility for the benefit of all and sundry.

He called upon all students home and abroad to donate generously in cash or offer building materials to speed up the project for it to be presented during the anniversary. He also used the opportunity to launch a poetry competition for the students to compete for laurels to mark the 60th anniversary.

Present at the sod-cutting ceremony were the Deputy Greater Accra Regional Minister, Mr Isaac Vanderpuye, who is also an old student, the Municipal Director of Education of the area, who was represented by Mrs Francisca Ansah and old students from the various year groups.
