The motorbikes, valued at GH¢5,000 each, are to be distributed to the five circuit supervisors in the district for official duties.

Addressing the ordinary meeting of the assembly in Gwollu, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Moses Dramani Luri, said the gesture was in line with the government’s commitment to providing quality education, adding that “it is hoped that the motorbikes will help the district to attain that objective”.

Study of Science

He said under the auspices of President John Dramani Mahama, 40 computers had already been presented to the Hilla Limann Senior High School in the district, while the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Alhaji Amin Amidu Sulemani, donated 20 more computers to the school to boost the teaching and learning of Information Technology (IT).

The DCE stated that a six-unit science block with a science laboratory was being built for the school to boost the teaching and study of Science in the school.

Mr Luri said besides these, the educational directorate had moved from operating on a “borrowed” premises to its new permanent two-storey office complex financed by resources from the Ghana Education Trust (GET) Fund.

The DCE mentioned, for example, that the district was a beneficiary of one of the government’s 200 community senior high school projects, indicating that “the site for the school had already been handed over to the contractor for work to commence”.

School performance appraisal meeting

He said the school performance appraisal meeting had been revived to monitor the performances of students across various levels of education in the district, while 26 new teachers had been posted to the district to address the issue of low teacher-student ratio.

The Sissala West District has recorded modest performance in the BECE, and the DCE announced that revamping the district education oversight committee, instituting an award scheme for best student, best teacher and best school in the district and the school performance appraisal meeting were some of the measures that had been adopted in the district to improve the standard of education.
