Seek approval from GES before charging fees -- PTAs advised

She said that was to ensure transparency and accountability and forestall extortion of monies from students and their parents by the associations.

Mrs Owusu Achiaw gave the advice at the inauguration of a 13-member reconstituted Board of Governors for the T.I. Ahmadiyya Girls Senior High School at Asokore in the Sekyere East District in the Ashanti Region.

She explained that the governing boards of the various educational institutions across the country existed to complement the government’s efforts towards the delivery of quality education.

Living above reproach

She, therefore, urged the members of the board of the school to live above reproach and communicate regularly with the school authorities to be abreast of challenges facing the institution so as to identify ways of resolving them to enhance effective teaching and learning.

Mrs Owusu Achiaw commended the immediate past board for upholding discipline with a sense of purpose, unity, love and progressiveness. She stressed that the exhibition of high disciplinary standards was the surest way to uphold academic excellence.

The Ashanti Regional Missionary of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, Maulvi Abdul Hameed Tahir, urged parents to put premium on the education of their children, especially the girl-child, to guarantee their future.

Assurance

The Headmistress of the school, Hajia Aisha Boakye Nyantakyi, assured the reconstituted board of the support of the school administration in the discharge of its duties.

She disclosed that as of May this year, the total student population was 804 and that with the successful completion of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) this year, 195 students had left the school, reducing the student population to 609.

Hajia Boakye Nyantakyi stressed that discipline was the school’s core value.

The Chairman of the board, Ayyub Morgan, on behalf of the board members, promised to work assiduously and strictly abide by the GES Constitution that regulates its activities.

He said the board would, however, expect exemplary leadership from the school’s management in the performance of its administrative duties.
