In all, six teachers were honoured with awards and certificates for their devoted and dedicated service to the unit.

They are Mrs Elizabeth Aduasei, Mrs Elizabeth Amponsem, Mr David Debrah and Mrs Janet Addo. They all worked for 24 years in the unit.

The rest are Mrs Dorcas Asomaning who taught for 20 years and one retiree, Madam Catherine Dzakpasu,  whose contribution was recognised.

Speaking at the function, the Executive Secretary of the Southern Ghana Union the  SDA Church, Pastor Dr Thomas Techie Ocran, congratulated the teachers on their continuous teaching in SDA schools, even though they worked with less resources.

Stressing the performance of the awardees, Pastor Ocran said teachers were always assessed through the performance of their students, adding that the outstanding performance of SDA schools clearly showed that there was great co-operation between teachers and supervisors. This, he said, had yielded positive results.

He added that even though most of  the teachers did not belong to the faith, they were keeping it alive.

He urged them to assist students because that was the profession they had chosen.

The General Manager of SDA Schools, Mr Peter Yaw Frempah, called on them to co-operate as one family, adding "Adventist education is a very big unit that has spread through all individual schools and offices in the country”.

The awardees used the occasion to socialise and share meals with one another.

The Accra East District Pastor of the church, Isaiah Gideon Morrison, who chaired the function, noted that teachers were the builders of society and shapers of personality, adding that the destiny of the entire nation rested in their bosom.
