Science/technology-based School inaugurated in Yendi
A new school aimed at providing quality science and technology education for children living in the eastern corridor of the north and beyond has been inaugurated at Yendi in the Northern Region.

The school, 7As College of Science and Technology (COSTECH), the first of its kind to be established in the north, has facilities for the basic education level but aims at establishing a senior high school (SHS) and providing education at the tertiary level.
The college has an Information Communication and Technology (ICT) laboratory with computers, hostels for males and females, a dinning hall, classroom blocks, staff common room and teachers bungalows/quarters.
It also boasts of sports facilities such as football pitch, basketball and table tennis courts. It has a water system, a standby generator as well as land for practical lessons in agriculture.
The COSTECH was jointly inaugurated by the Regent of Dagbon and the acting President of the Dagbon Traditional Council, His Majesty Kampakuya-Naa Andani Yakubu Abdulai, and the Deputy Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI), Dr Alfred Sugri Tia, in a ceremony at Yendi last Saturday.
The Founder of the school, Mr Nathaniel Adams Jnr, who spoke to the Junior Graphic, said the college would provide quality science education for children to enable them to become professionals in that field to serve the country.
He said COSTECH used the Ghana Education Service (GES) syllabus and provided extra tuition in Mathematics, Science and Technology (MASTESS) to give students a practical understanding of the basics in Science to enable them to develop interest in the subject.
Dr Tia said the government had over the past five years initiated steps to improve the study of Science and had put in place schemes and packages such as the Mathematics, Science and Technology Scholarship to make specialisation in the sciences very attractive and rewarding.
He said the programme had provided bursaries for about 10,000 needy Science students since it was instituted in 2009.
The Kuga Naa, Abdulai Adam, on behalf of the Regent of Dagbon, commended the efforts of the government for improving education in the country and appealed for more assistance to bridge the gap between the north and the south.
