Science, ICT equipment for deprived SHS
The Ministry of Education has presented science equipment, information and communication technology (ICT) resources and laboratory chemicals worth £8.5 million to the Science Resource Centre (SRC) for distribution to 200 deprived senior high schools (SHSs).

The distribution of the materials forms part of the third phase of the SRC project, which aims at establishing well-equipped science laboratories in all SHSs.
Previously, the 200 deprived schools depended on other schools with well-resourced science laboratories for their practical science experimentations.
The Minister of Education, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, who presented the items said each beneficiary SHS was to receive 900 boxes of science equipment, chemicals and other (ICT) resources to enhance the study of science.
Human resource development
According to her, that phase of the project included the training of about 731 science teachers and 247 laboratory technicians.
That, she said, would enhance the understanding of teachers in modern trends in science education.
Objective of the project
Receiving the items, the Head of the Science Education Unit of the Ghana Education Service, Mrs Georgina Quaisie, stated that the objective of the project was to prevent the exclusion of students from less endowed schools from studying science.
She said the resourcing of the 200 high schools would provide equal opportunities for all students at the SHS level to pursue programmes as identified by the SRC.
