Scholarship packages for Baatsona TMA Primary pupils

An electrical engineering company, Process and Plant Automation (PPA), has presented scholarship packages to 14 brilliant, needy pupils of the Baatsona TMA Primary School, near Tema.
The package, presented to pupils in Primary One to Five, included school bags and uniforms, Physical Education kits and the payment of their levies.

Making the presentation, the Chief Executive Officer of PPA, Mr Kweku Asmah, said the initiative was the company’s effort to support the children to stay in school and also help develop their talents, adding: “We need to collaborate with stakeholders to ensure that these pupils receive quality education.”

Selection of beneficiaries

He explained that the selection of the beneficiaries was based on a collaborative effort between the company and teachers of the school, indicating that they considered pupils who went to school regularly and showed a high level of excellence and determination despite financial difficulties.

“We want every child — rich or poor — to access equal opportunities so that they will become adults who will contribute positively to the development of the economy. We will go to any length to make sure these children achieve their dreams despite the challenges,” he added.

Mr Asmah said the scholarship was the beginning of PPA’s leadership educational fund which was aimed at enhancing the standard of education at the basic level, and hinted that the company would continue to support such pupils provided they demonstrated consistent and good academic performance during the period of review.

He stressed the need for proper monitoring and supervision by parents and teachers to keep pupils focused on their studies, pointing out that since the capitation grant and other incentive packages had helped to increase school enrolment at the basic level, there was the need to maintain the standard of academic excellence as well.

Electricity for the school

He said PPA provided the school with electricity upon its request, to enhance teaching and learning, and that had given it a different look and platform for teachers to provide quality teaching.
He called on the education directorate to intensify supervision at the basic level to improve academic excellence, saying: “Our leaders must develop new ways to attract pupils in the basic levels to stay in school and also take their studies seriously.”

The Headmistress of the school, Mrs Comfort Agboza, thanked the PPA for its support, describing the package as timely and good. She stressed that it would serve as a motivating factor to encourage both teachers and pupils to give of their best.
