Rotary Club of Tamale provides ICT centre for pupils
The Rotary Club of Tamale, in collaboration with its international partners, has provided school children in Bumboazio, a deprived community, near Gambaga in the East Mamprusi District in the Northern Region, with an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) centre to enhance teaching of the subject in the school.

The Rotary Club of Watford, Ontario, Canada and Rotary Club of Wainwrite, Alberta, Canada of Rotary districts 6330 and 5370 respectively, provided financial support of GH¢25,840.00 for the project.
The centre, connected to a solar power, is attached to Bumboazio La’angum Learning Centre.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, the President of the Rotary Club of Tamale, Mr Alexander Kpodo, said the club, together with its partners, decided to provide the community, which has no electricity, with the solar-powered ICT centre, to promote the teaching and learning of ICT, as a step to help bridge the computer technology gap between the rural and urban centres.
Commendation
He commended Pambe Ghana, a non governmental organisation (NGO), for establishing the learning centre and developing teaching and learning methods based on the Montessori approach, and for using the mother-tongue of the pupils as the medium of instruction at the primary level.
The President of the Tamale Rotary Club expressed the hope that the solar infrastructure and the computers would go a long way to enhance the ICT skills of the pupils.
The Director of Pambe Ghana, Madam Alice Iddi-Gubbels, said the school had a total population of 180 pupils, made up of 80 females.
She commended the parents for taking keen interest in the education of their children and providing them with lunch to take to school.
She also expressed her appreciation to the Rotary Club of Tamale and its international partners, for initiating and implementing the project and appealed to the government to come to the aid of the school and the community by connecting them to the national grid.
