Resource nation's colleges

The wife of the Vice-President, Mrs Matilda Amissah-Arthur, on Tuesday emphasised the need for more investment to be made in the training of teachers. That, she said, would improve the quality of graduates churned out from the country’s teacher training institutions.

According to the Second Lady, there was a direct relationship between the quality of teachers and the academic output of students they produced.

Mrs Amissah-Arthur made this observations when she addressed the 3rd Speech, Awards and Graduation Day of Association Community International School in Accra.

She said “it is important that the colleges of education are well resourced so that teachers will come out fully equipped to teach.”

The ceremony was on the theme: “Providing Quality Basic Education, A necessary Investment for all”.

Mrs Amissah-Arthur stressed the need for society to see child training and education as a collective responsibility instead of leaving it for government alone.

She called on parents not to just abandon their children in schools once they secured admissions for them, but to show keen interest in their development.

The Second Lady later donated three laptops to deserving students and teachers.
