The committee, which has Mr R.K Sambo, the Eastern Regional Coordinating Director, as its chairman, is  to among other functions, give technical advice in the selection of sites for the physical project work in the interest of the public and undertake due diligence in all matters.

The rest are to liaise with major stakeholders, give technical direction in the acquisition, processes and procedures related to site preparation and any other business that may be referred to the committee for  professional advice.

Technical expertise

In a brief remark, the regional minister emphasised that the technical expertise of all the members of the committee would be needed in the implementation and operational stages of the committee’s work.

He said an allocation had been made in the budget for the proposed university, while a team had been constituted to develop the curriculum for the university. He was happy that a site had been acquired in Somanya while that of the Afram Plains (Donkorkrom) was in progress.

For his part, the chairman of the committee gave an assurance that the group would work hard to justify the confidence reposed in them.

It would be recalled that a few years ago, His Excellency, President John Dramani Mahama gave a hint of the establishment of a university in the Eastern Region and said all measures were being put in place for the realisation of the programme.
