Members of the foundation made the pledge when they visited the sector Minister, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyeman, to inform her of their up-coming campaign against indiscipline in schools which, they said, was the result of recent indisciplined behaviour among some students that had resulted in low performance in schools.

The queenmothers observed that the current decline in moral values was the result of indiscipline in most institutions, especially, the education sector, and called for proactive measures to deal with the situation.

Commendation

The minister commended the foundation for the initiative, and urged parents to help in the proper training of their children.

She said, for example,  they should start regulating their television-viewing habits and encourage them to concentrate on their books.

She also stressed on the need for parents to use the mother tongue during the early years of children as they even learned to speak since many researches had proven that the use of the mother tongue produced excellent students and intelligent minds.

She spoke about the ministry’s policy directive on “Zero Tolerance for Teacher Absenteeism,” and stressed that the ministry would enforce the rules and regulations set out for teachers’ conduct towards work, with appropriate sanctions and punishments administered to erring teachers.

In another development, the

Queen mother of Ho-Dome, Mama Attratoh II, on Tuesday began her campaign against lesbianism in schools.

According to a Ghana News Agency (GNA) report, Mama Attrato said she intended to engage in plain talks with students to curb the practice in the country, and described lesbianism and gayism as demonic.

Campaign

The campaign coincided with a symposium to mark the 30th anniversary celebrations of Mawuko Girls SHS in Ho in the Volta Region.

Last year, some students of the school were said to have been dismissed from the school for engaging in lesbianism.

A source at the school told the GNA that the sharing of beds by students could trigger the practice.

The source also said management of the school was finding it difficult to deal with the practice because only three teachers had accommodation on campus to monitor the over 1,000 students.

Mama Attrato described the female sex organ as very delicate  and advised the students to keep it as such.

“Your organs are very delicate so if you go pushing things there now, you are destroying yourselves and your future,” she cautioned.

Mama Attrato asked the teachers to act as mothers to the students and keep an eye on them.

The senior housemistress, Ms Edem Klutse, in a prayer, asked God to help stop the canker which was spreading among students.
