Proprietors of private schools urged to improve infrastructure

A Counselling Co-ordinator at the Awutu-Senya East Municipality in the Central Region, Mrs Agnes Priscilla Hammond-Kittoe, has advised proprietors of private schools to provide good infrastructure and employ the services of qualified teachers for their schools.

According to her, some proprietors of private schools in the country establish such institutions without properly putting in place the necessary facilities that will support the development of the children.

Mrs Hammond-Kittoe said since education remained the backbone and foundation of every nation, operators of private schools ought to invest in the training of their staff and upgrade their infrastructure to enhance their operations.

Delivering an address at the graduation ceremony of St Joseph Montessori School in Accra last Saturday, on the theme “Education, the key to national development”, Mrs Hammond-Kittoe said since education remained the backbone and foundation of every nation, there was the need for parents to fully support their wards by investing in their education.

She indicated that “It is only through education that the potential of our youth would be tapped,” and observed that one of the major ways of reducing immorality in the society was for parents to support and assist their children.

She said parents who neglected the fundamental needs of their children risked exposing them to social vices, adding that most teenagers found on the streets engaging in negative practices such as prostitution were often victims of parental neglect.

In his welcome address, the Proprietor of the school, Mr Joseph Anani, said the institution was established to provide young children with the requisite knowledge.

“The school combines activities and video sessions with classroom lessons to fully develop their potential and the child’s brain, which most traditional schools have woefully failed to do,” he said.

Mr Anani indicated that the school intended to expand its infrastructure to accommodate more children and also create the right environment for their growth.
