“Educational institutions, in their quest to share academic experiences among larger audiences, must adopt innovations on how to interact with other students through the use of information and communications technology (ICT),” he said.

Professor Ahmed, who made the call at the ceremony for the opening of a three-day multidisciplinary and inter-tertiary cross-border conference, therefore, stressed the need to promote e-education in sharing experiences on how to transfer, integrate and adopt ICT in institutional learning.

The sixth International Multidisciplinary Conference on Science, Technology, Education, Arts, Agriculture, Management & the Social Sciences (iSTEAMS) was on the theme: “Addressing human-centred challenges through multidisciplinary innovations and inter-tertiary collaborations”.

E-education

Prof. Ahmed observed that with the growth in population in the sub-region, most countries in West Africa were likely to be handicapped in teaching their students, hence the adoption of  e-education to ease stress in reaching out to people.

“Digital technologies have brought about changes in teacher-student relationships as they learn from each other, with the teachers’ role shifting from providers of information to facilitators and guides of learning,” he explained.

Commendation

The Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof Abednego Feehi Okoe Amartey, on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, commended iSTEAMS for promoting intellectual and human capital development, technology transfer, research and cross-border collaborations among its partners.

He said it was his wish that the research results would be effectively disseminated among policy makers and governments in the sub-region and beyond in order to help formulate policies for national development.

Awards

Six personalities received awards of excellence for supporting, encouraging and promoting multidisciplinary research in their various institutions.
