Private universities not money-making ventures

The President of the Catholic Institute of Business and Technology (CIBT), Very Reverend Jonathan Ankrah, says private universities should be seen as major contributors to national development rather than money-making ventures.

He explained that private universities did not only take in second cycle students who needed to continue their education to the tertiary level, but also admitted adults who needed to further their education.

Very Rev. Ankrah, who made the statement at the first congregation of the CIBT in Accra, urged the government to encourage and support the private universities with the needed resources including financial support.

“What the state should be looking at in private universities is not money but how to help them to strictly maintain high academic standards,” he stated.

Touching on the activities of the school, he said the CIBT, in collaboration with Catholic University of Scared Heart in Italy, would begin a Master’s Degree programme in Global Business and Sustainability in October.

Giving the keynote address, the Managing Director of Tropical Cables, Dr Anthony Oteng–Gyasi, urged the graduates to venture into entrepreneurship as it was difficult to get a job in the public service.

He advised the graduates to seek God in everything they did, adding that their personal principles and morals should not be compromised by any job.

Forty-four students graduated in Business Administration, Computer Science and Public Administration.

Mr Kingsley King- Konu emerged as the overall best student.
