‘Prepare young girls to become nation builders’
A former Principal of St Monica’s College of Education in Mampong in the Ashanti Region, Madam Agnes Ofosu-Koranteng, has advised headmistresses of the various girls’ schools in the country to adequately prepare young girls in their schools to acquire knowledge and skills that will enable them to become good mothers, good wives and nation builders.

In addition, they also have to prepare the female students to acquire knowledge, both academic and practical, that will equip them to serve “our nation in key positions in both the public and private sectors.”
Madam Ofosu-Koranteng gave the advice when she addressed the mid-year meeting of the Forum for Heads of Girls’ Senior High Schools (FOHGSHS) which took place at the T.I. Ahmadiyya Muslim Girls’ Senior High School at Asokore in the Ashanti Region, said the young girls required knowledge that would make them competitive on the job market.
She charged headmistresses to encourage students who, for any reason, neglected their studies and spent their time and energy on unprofitable pursuits to take their studies seriously.
She said the girl-child was being educated to live comfortably within a world that was constantly changing and bombarding her with all sorts of new information, new technology and lots of ideas from the media and the Internet.
She indicated that it was the responsibility of the school heads and tutors to protect, guide and direct the girl-child from the negative propaganda and misinformation that was being let loose and which was serving as a source of temptations to the young students.
In an address to welcome members of FOHGSHS, the headmistress of Asokore T.I. Ahmadiyya Muslim Girls Senior High School, Hajia Mrs Ayesha Nyantakyiwaa Boakye, said the school, which started as a mixed school, was converted to a purely girls’ school in the 2008/2009 academic year.
She said the school, with a total population of 601, is made up of both Muslims and non-Muslims, adding that the school exercised a high level of tolerance in matters of faith and worship.
