Parents asked to invest in education of children

The Christian Service University College (CSUC) has held its 40th matriculation ceremony in Kumasi for 125 fresh men and women, with a call on parents and guardians to invest in the education of their children instead of spending lavishly on other social activities such as marriages, funerals and parties.

Speaking on the theme, “Moving Forward After 40 Years Through The Word of God,” the President of the CSUC, Prof. (Mrs) Frances Owusu-Daaku, who made the call, reminded parents that the best legacies they could bequeath their children were knowledge and skills that could make them self-reliant and to contribute meaningfully to national development.

A total of  77 males and 48 females have been offered courses in Bachelor of Arts (BA), programmes in Business Administration, Nursing, Community Development and Social Work, Computer Science, Communication Studies, Theology and Administration and Information Technology (IT).

Student population

Affiliated to the University of Ghana (UG) and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), CSUC currently has a student population of 1,600.

Prof. Owusu-Daaku noted that though the students had aspirations of securing a better future, one could only realise his or her dreams through divine intervention, and supported her argument with a biblical text which encouraged believers to “seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness; and all other things will be added unto you”.

The vision of the university, she said, was to be a first-class evangelical christian university that would promote knowledge about Christ through the training of men and women with moral uprightness, academic excellence and passion to serve and transform society.

Intermittent power supply

Prof. Owusu-Daaku said the intermittent power outages, known in our local parlance as “dumsor dumsor,” remained one of the major challenges facing students of the university, adding that the institution spent GH¢1,500 every week in fuelling stand-by generating sets to enable students to learn at night.
