Parents asked to contribute to education of children

The Proprietor of the Andam Senior High Technical School, Mr Kwesi Andam, has advised parents to make meaningful contributions to the education of their children in senior high schools (SHSs), by ensuring the prompt payment of their school fees and all other financial commitments

He also advised parents to provide their children with the needed care and materials, to enable them to achieve their aspirations, as a positive step to reducing cases of teenage pregnancy among the youth, and promoting their development.
Addressing a Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) meeting of the school at Kasoa-Ofaakor in the Central Region, Mr Andam stated that parental neglect was negatively impacting on the youth in the area, stressing that the incidence of teenage pregnancy was worrying as it had led to school dropout among some female teenagers.

Youth sensitisation
According to Mr Andam, the community was experiencing a high rate of teenage pregnancy, hence the need to devise strategies, such as regular sensitisation among the youth to curb the situation.
He said the school had been in existence for 14 years, but pointed out that out of 150 students in the school, 30 of them had stopped schooling because they had not paid their school fees.
He, therefore, appealed to philanthropists, institutions and well-wishers to support the students, especially those in the boarding house, to prevent them from dropping out of school to engage in menial jobs at the expense of their education.
The PTA Chairman of the school, Mr Isaac Buer, urged the public to assist the students with their needs.
